Wacker Neuson’s new DV45 dumper is a compact success story.
Austria’s Wacker Neuson has been creating innovative solutions for the construction industry for more than 175 years. Their line of Dual View Dumpers, featuring a revolving cab that allows the operator to safely and efficiently monitor machine operation in any direction, has been a highly successful example.
Initially offered in three large versions, the DV60, DV90 and DV100, customer input indicated a need for a model with a smaller footprint. Wacker Neuson responded with the new DV45, a compact machine rated at 4.2-tonnes that’s powered by a Perkins® 403J-E17T engine.
“A big challenge was the available installation space. The key factor was to have a small engine with high power density and no-charge air cooler,” said Alexander Pfefferkorn, senior engineer, engine integration.
Perkins developed the 3-cylinder 403J Series engines to meet original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) need for an ultra-compact, lightweight engine for machines like the DV45. The engines deliver impressive performance, great power density, fuel efficiency and low operating costs in a compact package that is ideal for a range of off-highway applications.
The new DV45 has all the proven safety features of the larger models, plus a number of new innovations. These include the ability to move the machine at a low speed with the cab oriented sideways; a hill-hold function to prevent machine movement when parked on slopes; and a seat-belt monitoring/start prevention system.
The Perkins engine also has an auto stop function that switches it off if the machine is not used for a pre-set time. The time interval is programmable, and the function can be shut-off if necessary.
Wacker Neuson’s Perkins powered DV45 has successfully met the needs presented by their construction industry customers. Managing director, Stefan Bogner sums up the success this way: “The DV45 Dual View Dumper is something we’re very proud of. It sets new industry standards and sets us apart from the competition.”
