Making a world of difference

Around the world, our facilities support local educational, environmental, charity and sponsorship initiatives. We are proud to take an active role contributing directly to our communities, helping them thrive, deliver better outcomes and build lasting relationships.

As one of the world’s leading engineering companies, our focus in education is on Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM), encouraging and inspiring the engineers of the future.

In Peterborough, in addition to supporting and running STEM activities, we support The Skills Service in helping local schools develop work readiness skills in students. In the wider community we actively work with Peterborough based charities and organisations and sponsor the annual Perkins Great Eastern Run, a half-marathon, fun run and wheelchair race which brings the community together and raises money for local charities.

In Stafford, we work with local schools supporting career events, providing sponsorship of Skirting Science an event designed to raise awareness of engineering careers for young women and every year we host our Eco Day awards where local schools are invited to showcase their environmental activities. Our employees also support various local community events ranging from local food drives to skills building initiatives, organised by our employee resource groups.

In Hosur, employees have worked on major environmental projects, rejuvenating lakes in two villages, to the benefit of the local communities. Therpet lake, once full of untreated wastewater, water hyacinths, millions of litres of sewage water and tons of waste, now holds non-polluted rainwater. In addition, wastewater flow has been addressed, fencing erected to protect the boundaries of the lake and a pathway created, with lights and benches, to make the area accessible to the local community. Employees also raise awareness of sustainability issues among the public, taking part in a walkathon and collecting rubbish as part of a plastic ban awareness campaign. Funds have also been donated funds to Vatsalyam, a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) to create a sustainable living space for children.

Employees at Aurangabad, are committed to improving the quality of life in local communities. In Shendra MIDC Aurangabad, various programmes have been launched and continue to help communities improve education for girls, health, sanitation, the environment and the empowerment of women through skill development initiatives. With the support of their NGO partner, they have established empowerment and skill development centres for women in four local villages. In addition, technology infrastructure has been built for 22 local primary schools, as well as 18 washrooms for female students, which has reduced the number of girls dropping out of school. Employees also planted more than 10,000 trees in nearby villages. Perkins Aurangabad has also donated ventilators to Maharashtra Government during the pandemic (COVID19) and distributed food grains and hygiene kits to 500 villagers.

Employees in Wuxi, host a job shadow day, to help university students understand how to prepare to enter the world of work. The day includes a factory tour, for many, their first opportunity inside a modern manufacturing facility, to learn about manufacturing processes and different job roles. Local school students also visit the site to learn about STEM careers.

Employees donate books and clothes to children in a disadvantaged area of Xinjiang and took part in a colour pen donation “The Colourful Future”, to encourage students at a migration school to read more books. Employees also participate in environmental projects, including removing rubbish and rejuvenating a lake as well as encouraging tourists to protect the environment.

For many years we have donated to Peterborough based charities and community groups. Our employees volunteer each year, supporting Kids Country range of activities (part of the East of England Agricultural Society). We also have a long-standing relationship with the Railword Wildlife Haven, participating in team building events for the last 15-years. We welcome applications for funding however, we are not able to support them all.
