Marine focus: A proven method.
Marine engines and the Perkins marine distributor network are two integral elements that keep the cogs turning. In this issue of Powernews we delve into these two elements and how through exploration and connectivity, together we power ahead.
The Perkins marine distributor network is there to service customers of Perkins anywhere in the world. It’s a place to receive advice by trained and experienced technicians on how to get the best from your Perkins engine. Here’s why.
Show don’t tell
There is a world of difference between hearing about something and experiencing it firsthand. When you read or hear about a product, you form a theoretical image in your mind. But when you stand before a Perkins marine engine, you see the gleam of the metal, feel the craftsmanship in every component, and you begin to understand the dedication that goes into its creation.
Imagine the scene: the engines standing proudly on display, their robust design a testament to engineering excellence. You can touch the metal, feel it’s cool solidity, and appreciate the quality of materials that make up these powerful machines.
The familiarity of the Perkins prestige blue colour, a symbol of our heritage and reliability, draws you in. This is your chance to build a clear picture of how these engines will integrate with your vessel or generator set package. Engage with our engineers and product support team, ask your questions, and receive immediate answers. The experience is tangible, real, and far more impactful than any description could ever be. It's not just about seeing; it's about connecting with the essence of Perkins marine engines, understanding their soul, and envisioning their place in your world!
Showcasing the Perkins® E44 and the E70B electronic auxiliary engines at Seawork International and the concept introduction of the Perkins® M175C, M200C and M245C propulsion engines at the Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS), served exactly this purpose.
These major marine exhibitions, that attract a global audience, enabled Perkins to show our distributor network, customers and the world what is available from Perkins.
We needed to connect
As we continue to reinvigorate the Perkins marine brand, our Perkins distributor summits returned in 2024, creating two opportunities for our distributors to connect with those who design and build the engines, and to engage with fellow distributors. These summits are more than just about internal collaboration; they have a direct impact on the end customer and equipment user. By fostering strong relationships and open communication channels with our distributors, we ensure that they are well-equipped with the latest knowledge and understanding about our products and future strategy. This, in turn, translates to better service and support for our customers.
Twenty-eight distributors from across the globe took up the opportunity to connect with Perkins face-to-face at the dedicated distributor summits. The first opportunity was to visit the marine factory in Wimborne, UK, the day ahead of Seawork International, the second to a more informal evening over a Dutch tasting menu in a private dining area ahead of METS in Amsterdam. Both opportunities gave everyone a voice, an opportunity to hear from those who develop the engines and learn about the upcoming distributor support tools, but it was about more than that.
The summits allowed distributors to share their experiences and best practices, helping to address common challenges, listen to what other distributors are doing in their respective territories and experience a deeper understanding what it means to be part of the Perkins network.
What next?
As we move into 2025, Perkins continues to encourage and welcome you to see our marine engines at upcoming exhibitions. This is your opportunity to meet the people behind the power solutions you rely on today, see the engines we offer and chat with us about the future of Perkins marine.
- Seawork International, Southampton, UK from June 10 to 12, 2025
- Marine Equipment Trade Show (METS), Amsterdam from November 18 to 20, 2025
Perkins is known for reliability and durability, but we don’t just tell you about it - we show you. Did you know Perkins marine engines assisted in the rescue of more than 14,000 servicemen during the Second World War, and they have completed multiple global circumnavigations? Today, they connect remote island communities and provide power to research vessels and fishing communities around the world. With our ever-growing product range, including our next generation propulsion engines, you can rely on Perkins and our distributor network to deliver reliable power and support.
